Finally my blog post is here. It’s probably not going to be the best because I’m not much of a writer but that’s okay. You get to experience a day that I had in the Dominican Republic. During the day on Thursday, Rachael told us that tomorrow we would be doing something that no group has done before. I didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing but I was hoping for good. I’m pretty sure that was on everybody’s mind the whole day. Later that night we had circle time and after that Rachael told us what we were going to be doing tomorrow. We were going to be spending a day with Billy. Billy was Guido’s son and he was in the tourism business. We were headed to the ocean.
Were we’re going to leave at 6 in the morning and it was a 2 and a half hour drive. Then we take a jet boat to an island, relax and spend time on the island for a couple of hours and then head back on a catamaran boat. Everybody was fired up. Jordan and Arie we’re so excited they couldn’t even stay seated. But, yeah we were pretty pumped.
The next morning at 6 we were ready to go. I think the drive went pretty fast for most people because a lot of us slept. We also stopped at a big grocery store on the way to get food and go to the washroom. I got froot loops with fruit shaped marshmallows and they are the best things on this earth. The ocean was about half an hour from the grocery store but it felt a lot quicker. Everybody was ready to go.
When we got there we all just ran to the water. Having your feet in the sand and seeing the ocean is just a beautiful thing.
When are boat arrived we all piled on and we were ready to head out to the sea. I was so happy to be on a boat. Having the wind in your face and just being in the middle of an ocean is amazing.
After about 20 minutes on the boat we stopped and got to go swimming. The water was so clear and Billy said that there were tons of starfish. We all jumped in and started to look for them. I found a baby starfish and it went with me everywhere until I had to say goodbye.
Billy, being the jokester that he is, told me my starfish was from Africa because it was black. When it was time to go we all packed on the boat but we we’re missing two people. Then we realized that Thomas and Arie were not on the boat. After a couple of minutes we saw them in the distance and we had to go pick them up.
We had a quick boat ride to the island, and then we were in paradise. A beach, the ocean, and free drinks. Just pop though because I don’t think any of us wanted to get sent home early. It was amazing.
We took in where we were. We got to island around 12 and we were there until 2 30. We swam, explored, play volleyball, tanned, and just had a great time. Swimming in the ocean, the sun beating down on us in 35 degree weather was pretty awesome. But I hope you all are still enjoying the snow down in Canada! Lunch was at 1 and everybody was pretty hungry. It was like a buffet and the food was so good! There was chicken, fish, pasta, fruit, bread, and salad. It was pretty delicious. Before it was time to go back on the boat, I looked around, took in where I was, and just thanked God for the amazing experience that I was having. And then I was talking with Billy right before we left and we prayed that we would see dolphins. But it was time to go back on the boat.
We had to go out a bit to get on the catamaran boat. But when we got there I was fired up! The boat was so sick! There was music, netting at the front of the boat to sit on, and again free drinks. It was a pretty sweet ride. Jordan, Thomas, Arie, and Zach all had a nice nap in the sun, Monica, Sam and a few others had a dance party, and others just looked out onto the water. Unfortunately we didn’t see dolphins but we did see flying fish which was pretty cool. When we got back people went to the washroom and then we were back on the road. Back to the Santo Domingo base.
When we got back to the base we all said thank you to Billy. I gave him a nice big hug and said “it was a great day. But there were no dolphins.” We both laughed and then said goodbye. We got back around 8 and had diner right away. We were all pretty tired so after dinner a bunch of people went to bed and got ready for Ina’s the next day.
Thanks for reading my blog post ladies and gentlemen. I’ll see you in less then 3 weeks. Love you Mommy

Scott
